Why you shouldn't use cosmetic products with parabens?

One of the biggest changes in the personal care industry in recent years is the consumer's shift to "natural" and "chemical-free" products. Ammaterre, like many other brands of skin care is committed to your health, so its formula is 100% paraben free.

What exactly are parabens?

Parabens became very popular because they help products last longer, they are very common preservatives in cosmetics, usually added in combination with other types of preservatives. In addition, they prevent the product from losing effectiveness.

Parabens are usually present in makeup, moisturizers and shampoos. We can identify them perfectly on the label by their names, usually in English: methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben or benzylparaben.

Why are they so harmful?

In 2004, the Journal of Applied Toxicology revealed that parabens were detected in certain breast tumors. Although a very direct relationship between parabens use and cancer has not yet been established, parabens already belong to the list of risky ingredients in the cosmetic industry.

In a study also conducted by the Journal of Applied Toxicology, it was shown that synthetic ingredients can cause:

  • Atopic dermatitis

  • Allergies

  • Thyroid problems

  • Infertility

  • Nervous system disorder

  • Immune system disorder

  • Cancer

Parabens have not yet been banned in their entirety because they haven’t yet been shown to be the cause of cancer and, therefore, there is a possibility that they will accumulate in cancer cells after they have begun to grow.

What can you do?

The first thing you should do is to read carefully the ingredients of your favorite cosmetic products, remember that the labels order the ingredients from highest to lowest according to their degree of concentration. Remember that the fact that a product is shown as natural or organic does not mean that it is paraben free, always look for the "paraben free" label

Thanks to the internet you can know which products contain or do not contain parabens in their formulation. For example, when entering www.ammaterre.com you can find our product certification “100% paraben free”, brands that are under this same line must always have this certification.

We ask that you always review the ingredients of the cosmetic products you use, that you become aware as they can be very harmful to the health in the long run and you should always opt for 100% natural products.
