PRODUCT STORY
Born from Stefanía's understanding that the eye contour is where the face speaks first — where fatigue shows, where time writes its earliest lines, and where the wrong product does more harm than good. Eye Serum – Eye Contour is formulated for the specific biology of periorbital skin: thinner at roughly 0.5mm compared to 2mm elsewhere on the face, with slower lymphatic drainage, more permeable capillaries, and a greater susceptibility to puffiness and pigmentation. Marula oil's non-comedogenic, biomimetic profile and Cucumber extract's clinically validated cooling and de-puffing properties make this the most thoughtfully precise product in the Ammaterre lineup.
KEY BENEFITS
* Visibly reduces undereye puffiness — Cucumber extract's flavonoids and caffeic acid provide anti-edema and vasoconstrictive effects, reducing the excess interstitial fluid that accumulates in the thin periorbital dermis overnight
* Targets dark circles through dual mechanisms — Vitamin C in Cucumber's ascorbic acid profile inhibits tyrosinase (melanin production) at the source; the vasoconstrictive effect also reduces the blood-pooling that creates the blue-purple shadow under the eye
* Prevents collagen degradation in the most vulnerable skin on the face — Marula oil demonstrates anti-collagenase activity of up to 99% in vitro; protecting the fragile collagen structure of the periorbital dermis is the most direct way to prevent fine lines from deepening
* Clinically non-irritant — the eye area cannot tolerate the same ingredient concentrations as the rest of the face; Marula oil is documented as non-irritant even in clinical patch tests, making it the ideal carrier for the delicate periorbital zone
* Improves microcirculation — increased blood flow in the capillary network reduces the stagnation that causes both dark circles and puffiness; Cucumber's active compounds support healthy fluid exchange in the periorbital tissue
* Hydrates without heaviness or milia risk — unlike many eye creams, this serum is lightweight enough not to occlude the tiny follicles around the eye, which are prone to forming milia (small trapped keratin deposits) when product is too heavy
HERO INGREDIENTS
Marula Oil (Sclerocarya Birrea Seed Oil) The choice of marula as the carrier for an eye serum is not accidental. Its fatty acid structure — dominated by oleic acid (69–73%) and palmitic acid (15%) — is almost identical to the sebum composition of periorbital skin, meaning the skin immediately recognizes and accepts it without the reactivity that more foreign ingredients can trigger in this sensitive zone. Its penetration-enhancing oleic acid gently improves the delivery of Cucumber's active compounds into the thin periorbital dermis, while its antioxidant tocopherols provide continuous free radical protection. Perhaps most critically for the eye area: Marula's in vitro anti-collagenase activity of up to 99% means it is actively inhibiting the enzyme that breaks down the already-fragile collagen in this zone — slowing the formation of fine lines at the structural level. Cucumber Extract (Cucumis Sativus Fruit Extract) Cucumber's reputation as an eye treatment is ancient, but the science behind it is more sophisticated than most people realize. Its 96% water content creates an osmotic effect that draws excess interstitial fluid from the periorbital dermis — the physical fluid that causes morning puffiness. Caffeic acid provides anti-inflammatory action and water-retention regulation. Flavonoids (specifically anti-histamine activity) reduce puffiness triggered by allergic and inflammatory responses. The vasoconstrictive effect — enhanced when the serum is applied with gentle tapping and with cool fingers — constricts the dilated capillaries responsible for the blue-purple undertone of dark circles. The ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) in the Cucumber profile provides mild tyrosinase inhibition, gradually lightening hyperpigmentation in the thin periorbital skin.
HOW TO USE
- Cleanse your face and pat the eye area very gently dry. The periorbital skin is the thinnest on the face — always use the ring finger (least pressure) for any eye application.
2. Dispense one or two drops onto the tip of your ring finger. A little goes a long way — this is a 15mL product designed for precision application.
3. Apply with the gentlest possible tapping motion — do not rub. Start at the inner corner of the eye (tear duct area, where dark circles concentrate) and tap outward to the outer corner.
4. Include the brow bone as well as the undereye — the skin above the eye ages and loses volume at the same rate. A half-drop pressed gently beneath the eyebrow is sufficient.
5. Morning application: Apply before Sun Rise Marula Day Cream. The eye serum should be the first product to touch the eye area; the day cream can be applied around (but not over) the serum if needed.
6. Evening application: Apply after Moon Night Marula Night Cream (or before, if you prefer a wet-on-wet layering approach). The overnight absorption period significantly amplifies de-puffing results.
7. For enhanced puffiness relief in the morning: Store the serum in the refrigerator. The cooling effect of a chilled serum amplifies the vasoconstrictive action that reduces puffiness.
EXPECTED RESULTS TIMELINE
Weeks 1–2: Immediate Comfort and Visible De-Puffing
The soothing and cooling effect of Cucumber extract is noticeable from the first application — most users report that puffiness is visibly reduced within 10–20 minutes of morning application. The skin around the eye feels immediately more comfortable. Dark circles begin to appear slightly less intense by the end of week two as the brightening mechanism begins to accumulate.
Weeks 3–4: Brightening and Fine Line Softening
The tyrosinase-inhibiting pathway has now built up consistent activity. Dark circles are measurably lighter under different lighting conditions — not just immediately after application. The hydration delivered by marula oil reaches the thin periorbital dermis and begins to visibly soften the fine lines caused by dehydration (the easiest fine lines to address). Crow's feet that are primarily dryness-driven show the first visible improvement.
Weeks 6–8: Structural Improvement
The collagenase inhibition at work since week one begins to show in the architecture of the eye area. Fine lines have less depth. Skin in the periorbital zone has greater firmness and elasticity — it bounces back when gently pressed rather than folding. Dark circles are significantly lighter. The cumulative effect of consistent application is an eye area that looks genuinely well-rested, not cosmetically treated.
Founder's Note
"After my pregnancies I learned the eye contour tells the story skin cannot quite hide. That is why we formulated this serum — to honor the eyes that have seen so much and still smile."
— Stefanía Fernández, Miss Universe 2009
